Abstract
A process for the purification of aqueous hydroquinone liquors containing metal ions comprises subjecting the hydroquinone liquor to treatment with a cation exchange resin, e.g. of the sulphonated polystyrene resin type. The liquors may optionally be treated with activated carbon before treatment with the ion exchange resin. The hydroquinone liquors employed as starting material may be obtained by reducing aqueous quinone solutions with iron, the quinone being obtained by reacting aniline with sulphuric acid and manganese dioxide. The products are employed in photographic developer compositions (see Group XX).
