Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction between an aqueous zinc salt and an alkaline neutralizing agent is conducted under specific conditions to produce high-purity ε-Zn(OH)2 through simple processes in a short time in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali hydroxide or ammonia is continuously fed to an aqueous solution of a zinc salt such as zinc sulfate in a reaction tank to effect the reaction wherein the pH of the reaction mixture is adjusted to higher than 10.5, the temperature is kept lower than 35°C and the concentration of the zinc ion reddissolved in the reation mixture is kept more than 10mg/l. The precipitate is filtered, washed with water and dried at room temperature to readily produce ε-Zn(OH)2 of extremely high purity.
