Abstract

811,171. Electrostatic precipitation. LENGER, V. J. July 27, 1955 [July 28, 1954(2)], No. 21702/55. Class 39(1). An electrostatic precipitation for testing the contamination of air by dust particles and designed to be held in the hand consists of a cylindrical collecting electrode 6 and a shorter inner discharge electrode 2 one of which is axially movable relative to the other. The collecting electrode consists of an aluminium sheet, 0À6 to 1 mm. thick, carried in a sleeve 3 and readily removable. The discharge electrode 2 has a wire tip 1, an insulating support 5 and may be provided with a heating coil. A fan 9 and motor 10 is provided in the housing 12. The collecting electrode may be moved manually by means of a pin 8 sliding in a spiral groove or by a connection to the motor. The quantity of air passing between the electrodes may be measured by means of a semi-conductor anemometer (See Group XXXVIII).
