Description

A method is proposed for measuring the speed and direction of an air stream using a series-connected direct current source, a galvanometer, and two plate electrodes, between which a radioactive substance ionizing air is placed.

The electrical circuit of the device for carrying out the proposed method is shown in the drawing.

К ручке-державке 5 зонда прикреплен кусочек радиоактивного вещества 6 (например, урановой смолки).The device consists of a metal probe, which consists of two metal plates 1 to 2, which are like capacitor plates connected in series with a source of direct current 3 and a galvanometer 4. A piece of radioactive substance 6 is attached to the handle-holder 5 of the probe (for example, uranium tar).

The amount of ionization generated by the radioactive substance 6 in the air is practically constant. Therefore, the number of ions that had time to settle on the plates 1 p 2 of the probe depends on the speed of the air and the smaller the speed of the air will be.

If the device is traded in units of speed, then by tariro27 Code. Issue 10, 1949

The temporal curve CAN determine the speeds of air flow.

The device can also measure the direction of air flow. At a certain constant air velocity, the electric current in the galvanometer circuit will have a maximum value in the case when the air flow is directed from the radioactive substance to the probe; in the opposite direction of air flow, the current in the galvanometer circuit will be minimal.
