Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the mean velocity of wind with accuracy in a short time, by placing in a duct a movable electrode which is deflected by the force of the wind and a fixed electrode which is not deflected by the force of the wind and by determining the velocity of the wind in the duct from the change in the electrostatic capacity between both electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: A movable electrode unit 1 and a fixed electrode unit 2 are placed in a duct so that these electrode units face each other at a prescribed distance. The fixed electrode 22 of the fixed electrode unit 2 is made of a thin metal wire of such strength that the electrode is not deflected by the force of wind. The movable electrode 12 of the movable electrode unit 2 is made of a thin metal wire of such strength that the electrode is deflected by the force of wind. When a sinusoidal current is supplied to the movable electrode 12 located on the windward side of the fixed electrode 22 and the movable electrode is deflected by the wind force in the duct, a voltage change due to the electrostatic capacity change between the electrodes 12, 22 corresponding to the velocity of the wind is detected by a voltage change detection unit 33. The influence of the temperature in the duct upon the output signal of the detection unit 33 is compensated by a temperature compensation unit 34. The output signal of the temperature compensation unit 34 is applied to a signal processing unit 35 to pick out a signal proportional to the mean velocity of the wind. The means velocity is indicated at a display unit 36.
