Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the mean velocity of wind with accuracy in a short time, by measuring the change in the voltage at both ends across a resistor extending on a plane perpendicular to the direction of the wind in a duct.
CONSTITUTION: A resistor 12 made of a thin metal wire for measuring the velocity of wind extends as a lattice on a plane perpendicular to the direction of the wind in a duct. A sinusoidal current is supplied to the resistor 12 to heat it. A quantity of heat corresponding to the velocity of the wind in the duct is transferred from the heated resistor. Therefore, the temperature of the heated resistor falls and its resistance changes. A voltage change, which appears between output terminals 14 depending on the resistance change, is detected by a voltage change detection unit 33. The influence of the temperature in the duct upon the output signal of the detection unit 33 is compensated by a temperature compensation unit 34. The output signal of the compensation unit is applied to a signal processing unit 35 to pick out a signal proportional to the mean velocity of the wind. The mean velocity is indicated at a display unit 36.
