Abstract

810,993. Exhaust-silencers. VILLIERS ENGINEERING CO. Ltd, and HARRIS, R. W. Nov. 6, 1957 [Nov. 9, 1956], No. 34231/56. Class 7(2) Diametrally opposed holes 24 spanning partitions 17 in a tube 11 connect the successive tube sections via chambers 13 defined between tubes 11, 10 by rings 12. The tube 10 is in two pressed or stamped sections welded together along flanges 28 and forms a gas inlet chamber 29. The rings 12 are coned as shonw or otherwise inclined and are welded to the tube 10. The tube 11 is made from a blank by rolling up and butt welding, each partition 17 being spot welded therein after a notch in one of its two flanges 27 has been located with a pressed-out tab 27. The tube 11 is removable for cleaning, having tongues 31 some or all of which are sprung out to engage the first ring 12, and passes with clearance through the other rings 12, its tail end being expanded to form a sliding fit in the tube 10 and being secured thereto by a removable pin 33.
