Abstract
810,288. Closure members for ante chambers. SMITH, A. G., [trading as SOUTHERN PRODUCTS], and SIDNEY, A. A. June 10, 1955 [March 10, 1954], No. 7016/54. Classes 7(2) and 7(3) The combustion chamber 15 (Fig. 2) is in a separate closure member 14 of an ante chamber or as shown in Fig. 1 the outerend of the ante chamber 6 is closed by a member 7. The member 7 carries the fuel injector 8. In Fig. 2 the flange 18 may be dispensed with. The axis of the ante chamber may be inclined. The ante chamber may be coaxial with the cylinder. The closure member may be movable into and out of the ante chamber to vary the compression ratio. A member may be inserted into the ante chamber being secured to or forming part of the closure member. By using different closure members the size or shape of the ante chamber may be varied. The closure member may be retained by threadably engaging the ante chamber internally or externally or by a member which so engages the ante chamber. The closure member may be formed with a cavity communicating with the ante chamber. The engine may be of diesel, semi diesel, petrol compression, or spark ignition type.
