Abstract
809,481. Loud-speakers. ROLA CELESTION Ltd. June 28, 1957 [April 10, 1956], No. 10928/56. Class 40 (4). The diaphragm 18 of a miniature moving coil loud-speaker is peripherally mounted on a fibre-board spacer 22 secured by adhesion to the rear surface of a mild steel plate 10 having apertures 11 for the dispersion of sound. A permanent magnet 17 is fixed to the centre of the plate and projects into an aperture 16 in a plate 15 to form a flux gap for the voice coil. Plates 10 and 15 are held in spaced parallel relationship by a lug 13 integral with plate 10. The distance between the plates is such that the diaphragm and speech coil can pass between them, the coil being placed in the opening 16 before the spacer and the magnet are fixed. The spacer is not used if the diaphragm is formed with corrugations to permit compression whilst it is passed between the plates. Dust may be excluded by a fine-mesh fabric at the front and an imperforate cap at the rear. The magnet 11 may be a force fit in an aperture on plate 10. Alternatively it may be secured by a bolt or by adhesive.
