Class 3(2) A display device comprises a stencil 1 made of wood, mill board or metal and carrying lamellae 2 of fluorescent plastic material in the shape of lettering or the like. The stencil is backed by a parabolic reflector 3 and is permanently or intermittently illuminated by a lamp 4 or by a prism reflecting natural light. The lamellae may be transparent or transluscent and coloured, if so desired, cellulose acetate rendered fluorescent by the absorption of a bromine, iodine or sodium being preferred. The ratio of the length h of the material extending towards the light route from the reverse side of the panel to the distance d between the rear of the panel and the light source is between 0.20 and 0.25.
