Abstract
808,142. Electromagnetic relays. VIGREN, S. D., ZANDER, R. A., and CLAESSON, P. H. E. June 8, 1956 [June 11, 1955], No. 17847/56. Class 38 (5). A relay, Figs. 1, 2, comprises an armature 1 pivoted at 2 and operating between pole pieces 6, 7 of a coil 8 and polarized by magnets 9, 10 having pole pieces 30, 31. A light alloy flanged arm 3 riveted at 4 to the armature carries a stud 17 controlling contact springs 15, 16 biased towards a contact 26 on a central stiffer spring 14 whereby energization of the coil 8 causes a spring 15 or 16 to disengage the contact 26. The construction is such that the ratio of the travel of the end of the armature 1 to the travel of the stud 17 is at least 1 : 2 and preferably 1 : 4. The springs 14 ... 16 may be moulded in a plate 11 adjustably mounted by screws 12, 13 on the base 5 and the springs 15, 16 may be composed of 80 per cent Pt and 20 per cent Ir. In a modification, Fig. 5, a peg 17 operates springs 15, 16 co-operating with a pair of stationary contact springs 14a, 14b, adjustable screws 22, 23 limiting the armature travel. According to another construction, Fig. 6, 9, the stud 17 operates wire contact springs 15, 16 co-operating with fixed springs 14a, 14b, having cranked ends, the springs being mounted on an insulating tube 24 and clamped together with insulating spacers 14c, 25 by a screw and nut 18, 20.
