Abstract

804,868. Electric horns. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Nov. 12, 1956 [Nov. 22, 1955], No. 34501/56. Class 13. In an electromagnetic horn, the interrupter contact assembly 76 is partially supported by a spark-suppressing resistance disc 80 which directly engages the fixed contact spring. As shown in Figs. 3 and 6, the contact assembly comprises fixed and moving contact springs 94, 106 which are secured with insulators 102, 109 by rivets 110, a metal arm 90 being arranged in electrical contact with the moving spring 106. The arm 90 is attached by rivet 92 to the horn casing 42 and has an extended portion 96 which engages a contact-adjusting screw 98. Further support for the assembly is provided by an integral extension 78 of spring 94 which is fastened to the casing with the resistance disc 80 and a terminal clip 82 by a rivet 84, electrical insulation being provided by an internal sleeve (not shown) and washer 88. The moving contact spring engages a shoulder on an armature 64 carried by a diaphragm 24, the armature cooperating with a coil 58 secured by.a spring washer 52 between the casing and a part 66 attached to the casing by welding. A threaded pole piece 60 provides an adjustable air gap in the magnetic circuit.
