Abstract

754,469. Electromagnetic switches; electromagnetic interrupters. BOSCH GES., R. March 23, 1954 [March 25, 1953], No. 8397/54. Class 38(5) A combined voltage regulator and cutout for battery charging on motor vehicles comprises a U-shaped magnet frame 14 carrying in a brass ring 15 a core 10 supporting a voltage coil 16 and a current coil 17. Brackets 19, 20 on the frame limb 18 respectively support, through leaf springs 23, 24, the cut-out armature 21 and voltage regulator armature 22, bracket 19 being supported on a magnetic strip 51 having an end 53 serving as a back stop for the armature 21, and bracket 20 being insulated from the limb 18. The spring 23 carries a contact 27 co-operating with a fixed contact 38, whilst a double contact 25, 26 on spring 24 co-operates with fixed contacts 28, 29. A magnetic disc 48 on the core 10 forms a secondary magnetic circuit shunting the armature 22. The frame 14 is insulatedly carried by a metal base plate 32 which supports the fixed contacts, the plate 32 having a shock absorber rubber ring 57. The flux from the coil 16 divides into two parallel paths, one from the core 10 through the ring 15 to the limb 18, the other through the armature 21 and the strip 51 to the limb 18, and the ring 15 is proportioned to divide the flux such that the armature 22 pulls in for a voltage on the coil 16 which is lower than that required to pull in the armature 21.
