Abstract
807,561. Ammunition projectiles. M. L. AVIATION CO. Ltd Feb. 22, 1957 [March 12, 1956], No. 7677/56. Class 9(1) A rocket or similar projectile to be fired from a discharger is stabilized in flight by a fin structure the fins being in a collapsed state before discharge and each fin having a spring bias to cause it to swing about a radial axis to the extended position after discharge of the rocket. The rocket tail 1 carries four fins 4 pivoted on pins 5 which -are screwed into a venturi 3. The base 10 of each fin has a recess 11 housing a clockspring 12 one end of which bears against the fin and the other end 13 extends into a recess 14 in a sleeve 15 fitted over the roots of the fins. Thus the springs tend to move the fins 4 out of the folded position, but such movement is prevented by the barrel of the discharger. Each fin engages a lip 16 at the forward end of the tail 1. On leaving the discharger, the fins swing tangentially to the tail about the pins 5 until they abut shoulders 20 on the sleeve 15. Where they are held by spring catches 21. Catch 21 comprises a leaf spring 25 having a bent end 26 pressed into notch 27 by the fin 4. As the fin swings to the operative position, the catch 21 snaps into a recess 30 in the fin.
