Abstract

745,252. Projectiles. M. L. AVIATION CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [July 29, 1953], No. 21086/53. Class 9(1) A collapsible fin assembly for a rocket projectile 1 comprises resilient fins 2 wrapped around the periphery of a tubular member 3 surrounding the rocket venturi 4. During storage the fins are held in the collapsed position by a cap 6, with their leading edges 7 engaged in an annular groove 8 in a ring 9 surrounding the body of the rocket. As the rockets are inserted into a discharger, the cap 6 is forced off, the wall of the discharger then serving to hold the fins in the collapsed position. As the rocket leaves the discharger, the fins open out due to their resilience. Each fin has a part 11 with a hooked end 13 which, as the fin opens, moves in a, slot 14 in the member 3 until the hook bears against the edge of the slot, so that the part 11 forms a strut holding the fin extended. The leading edge 7 of each fin has a cutaway part 15 to facilitate engagement with the ring 9.
