696,751. Releasing starting rockets. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. Jan. 19. 1950 [Jan. 25, 1949], No. 2032/49. Class 9(ii) [Also in Group XXXIII] Starting rockets 14 around a missile 10 are secured by the noses and tails, the noses by the lugs 18 fitting over the spigots 19 on the band 20, and the tails by the band 28 which is affixed by the arms 29 to the segmented collar 33 and 34. Before launching, the piston 22 in the sleeve 21 of the lug 18 isfreed, so that, on the rockets firing, the sleeve 21 moves towards the band 20 to compress the spring 24. When the thrust of the rockets falls below the pressure of the spring 24, the sleeve 21 comes away from the spigot 19 and the released noses are swung outwards because of the air pressure on the vanes 17. The arms 29 pivot about the pin 31 causing the pin 38 to be withdrawn by the claws 32 and allowing a part of the sectional collar to fall away with its associated rocket.
