Abstract
773,190. Self-propelled missile ; ammunition. BLACKER, L. V. S. Aug. 7, 1953 [Aug. 7, 1952], No. 19931/52. Classes 9 (1) and 9 (2). A self-propelled missile, Fig. 2, having an explosive charge 8 with a nose fuze 20, a propellent 10 the combustion products from which discharge, through the nozzles 12 and a launching charge 9, is fired by fitting the tube 4 over the spigot rod in the gun (not shown). The charge 9 is ignited by the spigot and simultaneously ejects the missile from the gun and ignites 10 through the passages 11. The centre lines of the nozzles 12 converge to a point on the missile longitudinal axis to the rear of the centre of gravity. In a further embodiment, Fig. 8, the missile is formed of two parts 34, 36 connected by a flexible rod 38. The propellant 42 discharges through the annular passage 40 and an uneven discharge will cause the parts to move relatively to so adjust the annulus as to produce a balanced thrust. In a further embodiment, not shown, the two parts are connected by a ball and socket joint and the propellent container is caused to rotate relative to the explosive head by means of a system of inclined vanes.
