Abstract
777,920. Launching rockets from aircraft. NORTHROP AIRCRAFT, Inc. Nov. 8, 1955, No. 31906/55. Class 9 (2). Rockets 3 are held in launching tubes 4, which are housed in containers 2 at the wing tips of an aircraft 1, by detents extending through the tubes. Lateral openings 5 in the containers 2 are provided for the exhaust of the propellent gases as in Specification 773,656. Each rocket 3 has folding vanes 9 and when fully inserted in its tube contacts an igniter as in Specification 777,919. Stop means 10 within the tube limit rearward movement of the rocket. The detent 11 is an elongated resilient element, e.g. of spring steel, secured to the outer surface of the tube 4 and having a head 14 extending into a groove 6 in the rocket casing, the surfaces of the head being such that the detent holds the rocket in position until the rocket is fired, when the thrust of the gases overcomes the resistance of the detent.
