Abstract
795,045. Ammunition rockets and projectiles. SOC. NOUVELLE DES ETABLISSEMENTS BRANDT. Oct. 9, 1956 [Oct 20, 1955], No. 30719/56. Class 9(1) A collapsible fin structure mounted on the rear end of a rocket or projectile comprises a body 2 having flanges 4, 5 to support pins 8 on which the inner parts 6 of the fins are pivoted, the outer parts 7 being pivoted to the parts 6 by similar hinge constructions. In Fig. 2, the part 2 is a nozzle screwed into the rocket body R, the pivot pins 8 being parallel to the longitudinal axis of the nozzle. A spring 12 surrounding the pin 8 has one end 13 bearing against the flange 4 and the other end 14 urges the fin part 6 to the extended position, while at the same time the spring urges the fin rearwardly to hold the hinge member 11 in locking engagement with a projection 17 of the flange 5. The fin part 7 is urged to the extended position by a similarly stressed spring 21 surrounding the pivot pin 18 and is locked in the extended position by a projection 24 of its hinge 20 engaging a recess in an eyelet 19 projecting from the part 6. The fins are secured in the folded position by a ring 27 automatically pushed off when the projectile is thrust into the gun, the fins then being held by the barrel until they leave the gun.
