Abstract

807,170. Two-part couplings combined with switches. CLEVITE CORPORATION. June 4, 1956 [Jan. 9, 1956], No. 17176/56. Class 38 (1). [Also in Group XXXVII] In a combined plug-and-socket connector and switch-actuating means, a casing 10 containing plastic material 11 has embedded therein a tubular member 12 having a ballshaped head 14 forming a plug contact which co-operates with a recess 34 in a socket contact 32 of a socket 30. Slidable in a bore 22 in member 12 is a plunger 20 which is spring- urged towards the head 14 so that in the disconnected condition of the connector an endportion 21 of the plunger projects from the head. The other end of the plunger carries a frusto-conical member 27 which, on axial movement of the plunger, is adapted to engage the operating members 28a, 29a of a pair of normally-closed snap-action switches 28, 29, such movement of the plunger being effected by engagement of the plug-and-socket members. If it is desired to retain the switches open whilst the plug-and-socket members are disconnected, a safety pin 41 (not shown), is introduced through a bore 40 in the plug to engage behind a shoulder 23 on the plunger and prevent its release.
