807,088. Fire-extinguishing. PYRENE CO. Ltd. June 9, 1955 [June 9, 1954], No. 16968/54. Class 47 [Also in Group XXIX] A bottle for liquefied carbon dioxide is combined with a pressure reducing valve having an orifice through which the carbon dioxide expands to the gaseous state and pressure responsive means connected to a point downstream of but remote from the orifice so that the operating means of the valve is unaffected by any solidified carbon dioxide formed. The invention is described as applied to fire extinguishing apparatus comprising a container 31 containing a fire extinguishing liquid or powder which is expelled by gaseous carbon dioxide through a tube 34 having a manually operable valve 35. The pressure reducing valve is connected to the liquefied carbon dioxide-bottle at a connection 4 and has a pipe 8 leading to a chamber 5 the outlet 7 from which communicates with the container 31. The movable closure member 13 of the valve is carried by a stem 12 attached to a flexible diaphragm 15 which is exposed on its upper surface to the pressure of gaseous carbon dioxide within the container. 31 communicated through a conduit 26. The lower side of the diaphragm 15 is vented at 30 to atmosphere. Springs 23, 24, of which the latter is adjustable by a screw 21, act upon the diaphragm.
