Abstract

The fire extinguisher tank (1) contains foam (11), expelled by injecting (8) gas from a pressurised bottle (7) into a space (13) above it. The pressure bursts a diaphragm (6) in the outlet (3), the foam being mixed (5) as it is expelled. A flexible bag (16) is fitted inside the tank, being suspended in the foam by means of a pipe (14). One end of this pipe enters the bag, the other end communicates with the static ambient atmosphere (15). As this ambient pressure increases or decreases, the flexible bag expands or contracts. The change in volume is used to compensate and balance the pressure inside and outside the tank.
