Abstract

Fluids, regulating volume of flow or pressure of; diaphragm valves. - A pressure reducing device for use with vessels containing liquefied or compressed gas and particularly applicable to fire extinguishers using carbon dioxide comprises a succession of expansion chambers containing material soaked with alcohol. The device is secured in the neck of the vessel 1 by means of an externally screwed shank 2<1> formed with an internal chamber 8 into which a tapered nozzle 4 is screwed. The chamber 8 communicates with a second chamber 10 by means of a restricted passage 9, both chambers being filled with oakum soaked with alcohol. The outlet from the chamber 10 is by way of an angle passage 12 controlled by a diaphragm valve comprising an ebonite diaphragm 14 clamped to the end of the casing by a, screwed cap 16, corrugations 15 being provided to ensure, a tight joint. The diaphragm is pressed against an upstanding seat 10<1> by a plunger 17 provided with a head 19 engaging the diaphragm and acted on by a screwed member 20 provided with actuating handle 21.
