Abstract
716,748. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems ; manually-actuated valves. C-O-TWO FIRE, EQUIPMENT CO. July 21, 1952 [July 21, 1951], No. 18394/52. Class 135 A fire-extinguisher discharge valve comprises a body 1 secured to a container 8 and housing a valve piston 30 slidable in a chamber 16. The valve piston carrying a sealing member 31 normally held upon a seat 24 by a spring 62 and the fluid pressure in the container conveyed through a restricted passage 47, is formed with a subsidiary valve member 64 engageable with a vent 56 normally closed by a plug 55. The plug is held in the vent by a bulb 52 formed of quartz or other material capable of withstanding a high temperature and filled with liquid having a low freezing point. On the temperature reaching a predetermined value the liquid expands to rupture the bulb, permitting the plug to be urged out of the vent by a spring 60 to relieve pressure in the chamber 16. The sealing member 31 now moves away from its seat 24 and the valve member 64 closes the vent 56 so that all the pressure fluid in the container passes through an outlet 25 connected to a hose. The valve may be manually-actuated by pressing on a lever 3 whence a rod 35 moves the valve piston to unseat the sealing member 31.
