Abstract

806,998. Self-contained supply systems. FIAT S.p.A. May 13, 1957 [May 19, 1956], No. 15145/57. Class 38 (4). A regulating device for use with the generators of motor vehicles is characterized in that it comprises an electromagnet 12 acting as a voltage regulator and an electromagnet 16 acting as a current regulator, the two electromagnets being secured to, but electrically insulated from, a magnetic bedplate 1, and an auxiliary armature 8 carrying contacts 15 which serves as a reverse current cut-out and which is so arranged that when operated it completes a magnetic circuit which includes the bedplate 1 and the magnetic cores 4, 5 of the two electromagnets. The electromagnets 12, 16 together with the associated contacts 13, 14 function to regulate the output voltage of a generator D in the usual manner, the armature 8 being attracted when the output voltage of the generator D is sufficient whereby the charging circuit of a battery B is completed by the contacts 15. Should the generator voltage fall below that of the battery the reverse current will reduce the magnetic field wherein the armature 8 will be retracted by a spring or the like to break the circuit between generator and battery.
