Abstract
806,939. Motor vehicle frames. DAIMLERBENZ A. G. Aug. 20, 1956 [Aug. 26, 1955], No. 25402/56. Class 79(3) and 79(4) In a suspension arrangement for a motor vehicle comprising an auxiliary frame having two longitudinal members and two transverse members, the engine (including the clutch housing, change speed gear &c.) is mounted on the two transverse members and the road wheels are suspended from the longitudinal members. Leaf springs 40 and a rigid axle 39, Fig. 2, are suspended from the longitudinal members 11, 12 by pivots at 41, 42, 45, and the engine 27, 28 is mounted on plates 30, 31 and rubber buffers Fig. 5 not shown, on transverse members 13 and at c and d, Fig. 1a, on transverse member 14 by means of bolts, a rubber block and reinforcing plates, Figs. 6 and 7 not shown. The transverse members are bent downwards to lower the centre of gravity, Figs. 5 and 6 not shown, and are either of U-cross section as member 13, Fig 2, or can be closed cross section as are the longitudinal members. In Fig. 1a, the member 14 comprises two U-cross section members 15 and 16 joined to form a box-section portion in the centre and bent outwardly at each end to form an X-form member 14. In a further modification, Figs. 8-10 not shown, the transverse member consists of two pressings welded together having fan shaped ends welded to the tapering longitudinal members, the upper pressing having cup like supports in holes to receive rubber suspensions 22. Fig. 2. The auxiliary frame is resiliently mounted to the main frame 10 by rubber suspensions Figs. 3 and 4 not shown, at points A, B, C, D, Figs. 1, 1a, the points of attachment being on the longitudinal members near the junction with the transverse members, the rubber suspensions permitting a limited movement of the auxiliary with respect to the main frame. The auxiliary frame may carry the steering gear. 46, Fig. 2, pedal linkages, brake cylinder &c.
