Abstract

805,867. Can closures. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1957, No. 3031/57. Addition to 766,930. Class 66. A sheet metal container has a top 2 seamed to a cylindrical body 1 with an inwardlydirected flattened bead 4 the flat sides of which lie in planes at right-angles to the sides of the body so that its edge defines a mouth of lesser diameter for closuring by a plug portion 6 of the top. A portion 9 between the bead 4 and seam 5 forms a tear strip and has a flange 7 connecting the plug portion 6 to the sides of the top 2 closely overlying the bead 4 so that the volume after opening to re-closure is substantially the same as before. The plug portion 6 push-fits in the mouth and has ribs 8 which engage beneath the bead 4, giving a snap-action. The tear strip 9 is defined by score lines 10, along which it is torn by a key 13 co-operating with a tag 12. In another embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the tear strip does not extend completely around the body.
