804,773. Earth-excavating apparatus. PROPRIETORS OF HAY'S WHARF, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1956 [Nov. 4, 1955], No. 31610/55. Class 68(1) In an apparatus for scouring away submerged earth by the action of intermingling jets of air and water under pressure, the nozzles 3 from which the jets issue are mounted in a cradle 26 supported by a chain or chains 1 passing together with air and water hoses 10, 11 over a pulley or pulleys 4 on a jib 5 mounted on a mobile carrier and then over a pulley or pulleys 7 at the foot of the jib to form a bight in passing about a pulley or pulleys 9 before being anchored to the carrier. Raising or lowering of the cradle 26 is caused by varying the length of the bight by rotation of the pulley 7 that cause paying in and out of the chains and hoses through gearing 22, 20 and chain 19 and longitudinal movement of pulleys 9, which are guided by spur wheels engaging racks 18. The chain 19 passes about pulleys 20 and one link is rotatably secured about the shaft of the pulley 9. The cradle is in two parts that can be rotated with respect to one another about a vertical axis by a ram 46 and a cable 47 secured to and passing in a coil about the lower of said parts. The water hoses are connected to the nozzles through a single or two passage joints that allows for movement of the upper and lower parts of the cradle. Specification 595,291 is referred to.
