Abstract

Foundry moulds and cores are made from sand mixed with a binder comprising one or more drying oils, e.g. linseed oil, one or more oil soluble glycerol or pentaerythritol pthalate or maleate resins, and a proportion of at least one siccative. In an example, 50 parts linseed oil, 45 parts glycerol maleate resin and 5 parts siccative solution are boiled down to stand oil which is used as binder in the following composition: 80 parts quartz sand, 20 parts clay-bonded sand and 2 parts binder.
