Abstract
Granite chips and/or powder are mixed with 10-35% by weight of an epoxy resin or other cold-hardening thermosetting binder, e.g. a phenolic resin and the mixture cured to produce an artificial granite which can be utilized for making or repairing articles, e.g. granite rolls for papermaking. The binder may include a curing agent, e.g. diethylene triamine or a polyamide or a flexibilizing agent, e.g. a polysulphide rubber, and the granite may be graded in size. During casting and curing the composition may be subjected to vacuum or vibration or both in order to reduce the cavities in and the porosity of the final product. The curing can be at ambient temperature for several days or it can be accelerated by heat, e.g. 2 hours at 20 DEG C. followed by half an hour at 115 DEG C.ALSO:An artificial granite is produced by mixing granite in the form of chips and/or powder with 10%-35% by weight of an epoxy resin or other cold-hardening thermosetting binder, e.g. a phenolic resin, and curing the mixture.
