Abstract
An oil composition suitable for use as a foundry core oil comprises (a) a blown nonconjugated bonded drying oil, preferably linseed oil blown with an oxygen-containing gas, and (b) a conjugate bonded drying oil, preferably tung or oiticica oil, the composition having an iodine number not less than 100 and a diene number not less than 7 and most suitably 7-8. Generally the blown linseed oil comprises 75-90% by weight and a preferred composition comprises by weight 90 parts air-blown linseed oil and 10 parts oiticica oil Before mixing with the core-forming material, e.g. sand, the composition is preferably partially polymerized by heating, accelerators such as chlorites, metallic oxides or lead acetate suitably being added. Cobalt and lead drying agents, e.g. the metals or the naphthenates may also be added. Specification 785,726 is referred to.
