Abstract
A rust-inhibiting paint comprises a mixture of substantially equal parts by weight of zinc cyanamide, zinc oxide and zinc-containing iron oxides (i.e. iron oxides containing up to 11% ZnO) dispersed in a siccative oil as binder, the binder oil having an acid number not exceeding 10 mg. NaOH per gram of oil. The binder may be a mixture of boiled linseed oil and stand oil or a mixture of siccative oils reinforced by resins, e.g. cumarone resins and modified phenolic resins (e.g. rosin modified phenolaldehyde resin). Turpentine oil, as solvent for the binder, aluminium stearate, as suspension agent, cobalt and lead naphthenates, as driers, and soybean lecithin, as wetting agent, may be present.
