Coating-compositions.-A rust-proof surface is produced on iron articles by applying a solution of a cellulose ester of an acid of high molecular weight (the term " acid of high molecular weight " being used to refer to acids containing at least seven carbon atoms), for example esters of higher fatty acids such as stearic or lauric acid, in a solvent such as xylene or benzene. Pigments such as red lead, iron oxide, titanium white, zinc white, or metal bronzes may be added, and salts such as copper naphthenate, copper oleate, lead naphthenate, ferric stearate, ferric laurate, ferric resinate. The layer may be covered by another layer such as of lacquer, varnish, or oil.
