Procedure for the extra-rapid production of cores and molds, suitable for the production of iron and steel castings substantially free of pores, characterized by: 1) mixing foundry sand in an amount comprised between 94 and 99.5, approximately, parts by weight, and binder in an amount comprised between 0.5 and 6.0 parts by weight, said binder comprising a component containing boron in an amount comprised between 5 and 40% by weight, based on the weight of the binder, and a second component that is (a) a mixture of an acid catalyst in an amount comprised between 0.5 and 15% by weight, based on the weight of said mixture, and a liquid formaldehyde-furfuryl alcohol composition, in an amount comprised between 99.5 and 85% by weight, based on the weight of said mixture, said composition containing at least 15% of monomer of furfuryl alcohol, and having between about 2 and 30% of formaldehyde level, or (b) a liquid formaldehyde-furfuryl alcohol composition containing at least 15% of furfuryl alcohol monomer and having between about 12 and about 30% of level of formaldehyde, said mixing continuing until the linker is distributed substantially uniformly in the foundry sand, thereby providing a hardenable and moldable casting mixture, 2) apply the foundry mixture, provided by process 1, to a heated and formed surface that is at a temperature comprised between 350º and 600º F (177º to 316º C approximately), 3) to leave the foundry mixture in contact with said surface for a sufficient period of time that allows the foundry mixture to become a self-supporting casting form, 4) separating the self-supporting casting form from said surface, and 5) cure the shape of self-supporting cast iron under ambient temperature conditions.
