Abstract
728,528. Moulds; moulding processes. PFAFF AKT.-GES., G. M. Nov. 28, 1952 [May 13, 1952], No. 30152/52. Class 83 (1). A shell mould made of a mixture of sand and heat-hardenable binders, e.g. resin, comprises superposed halves 20, 21, Fig. 1, supported on a plate 6 and covered by a loading plate 5 and weight 10 which together have the approximate weight of the metal to be cast. The halves are spaced and supported by peripheral ledges 1, 1<SP>1</SP> and located by dowel pins 2, and the upper mould half 20 has a metal inlet 3, Fig. 2, with an extension 3<SP>1</SP> protruding through a slot in the plate 5. The casting recesses 4 are interconnected by a runner from the inlet 3. The peripheral ledges may be replaced by a number of projections, and support projections may also be provided between the casting recesses. The supports are levelled to a uniform height by the application of a heated plate during manufacture of the mould halves while the mixture of sand and binder is still in a plastic state.
