Abstract
A starch preparation or size, particularly suitable for use in laundries, comprises a mixture of starch and hectorite containing, e.g., 96 1/2 per cent by weight of maize starch and 3 1/2 per cent of hectorite. The powdered ingredients may be mixed, and used, dry or in water. They may be cooked, for 10 to 30 minutes, in sufficient water to form a starch preparation or size containing gelatinized starch and 4 ounces of dry substance per 0,833 Imperial gallon. The preparation or size may be made by mixing and heating 1 pound of hectorite, 2 or 6 pounds of starch and 8,33 gallons of water.
