Abstract

802,779. Suction cleaners. LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK. March 14, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 8422/57. Class 8(1). Height adjustment of a suction cleaner nozzle having an elongated suction inlet 14, Fig. 2, in a bottom plate 13 is effected by vertical displacement relative to the plate 13 of a pair of floor-contacting shoes 18, 19 rotatably mounted on crank pins 39, 40 at opposite ends of a shaft 24 located within the nozzle body 10, running parallel to the inlet 14 and capable of being rocked about its own axis by means located centrally of the body 10, e.g., a cam 47, engaging a follower 45 rigidly secured to and projecting from the shaft 24. The cam 47 is of annular form and has a rearwardly extending arm 59, Fig. 3, which passes through an arcuate slot in a retaining plate 60 and is bolted to a control knob 61 capable of being manually rotated to a degree limited by the width of the slot in plate 60. The shoes 18, 19 are biassed downwardly by light coil springs 63, 64 and are mounted to allow limited pivotal movement about an axis parallel to the slot 14. The plate 13 has teeth 16 and a brush 17.
