802,449. Winding machine bobbin cradles. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE, N. V. May 28, 1956 [July 20, 1955], No. 16500/56. Class 120(2) Thread winding mechanism comprises a driving drum 15, a swingable forked member 1 for applying a bobbin 13 to the drum 15 and maintaining tlhe bobbin 13 in contact with it along a generator, and an abutment 18 for limiting movement of the swingable forked member 1 in the downward direction, and two rotatable rollers 8 mounted on the inner side of each arm of the forked member to co-operate with the edges of the bobbin 13, the axes of rotation of the rollers 8 on each arm being situated at different distances from the axis 2 about which the forked member 1 swings, and the rollers 8 on one arm being axially aligned with the rollers on the other arm of the forked member 1. Springs 20 or counterweights act to maintain the unloaded member 1 away from the driving drum 15, but the weight of an empty bobbin 13 brings it into driving contact with the drum 15. When doffing a full bobbin 13, it can rest out of contact with the drum 15 on one pair of rollers 8 and a pair of resilient pins 14 in the arms of the member 1. Instead of the pins 14, spring-urged balls may be employed. In a second embodiment, the rollers 8 in the member 1 rest on top of the bobbin 13 and the springs 20 act to urge the bobbin against the drum 15. Resilient pins are provided on abutments at the end of the arms of the member 1, and a notch provided in one arm to assist in removing a completed bobbin 13 from driving contact with the drum 15 to rest on the pins.
