Class 112 A bobbin-winding device in a sewing machine comprises a member 8 which is pivoted at 10 to the machine frame about an axis parallel to the axis of a shaft 4 in the machine, and which carries a part 9 having an outer surface adapted to lie flush with that of the machine frame when the device is inoperative, a member 11 pivoted at 12 to member 8 about an axis perpendicular to that of pivot 10, a spring 13 connected between members 8 and 11, a spindle 18 rotatably mounted in member 11 for carrying a bobbin 17, a wheel 20 fixed to spindle 18 for frictional contact with a moving part connected to spindle 4, and means adapted to interrupt said frictional contact when the winding operation 'is complete. Shaft 4 carries a flywheel 5 driven by a belt 7. When member 9 is pivoted outwardly of the machine against the bias of a spring 10<SP>1</SP>, member 11 may be pivoted against the bias of spring 13 to engage wheel 20 with'belt 7. A feeler 14, which is pivoted at 15 on member 11 and is spring-biased against the bobbin, has an arm 22 which engages behind an abutment 21 on member 9 to hold the wheel in contact with the belt. When the bobbin is fully wound, arm 22 moves clear of abutment 21 to allow spring 13 to move the wheel away from the belt, and spring 10<SP>1</SP> to move member 8 within the machine frame. A pin 23 projects from member 8 to lie within a recess provided in member 11 to limit pivotal movement of the latter.
