Abstract
837,685. Winding yarns. HOLT Ltd., T., HOLT, F., and LEE, G. May 9, 1958 [Feb. 9, 1957], No. 4496/57. Class 120(2) Textile winding machine of the type in which the yarn package is driven by frictional contact with a driving roll and including a pivotally mounted weight influenced cone holder, has means for driving the traverse cam in synchronism with the cone holder; means for imparting a positive initial direct drive to the cone holder until sufficient thickness 'of yarn has been built up on the cone-holder to afford the necessary frictional grip on the driving roll; solenoid operated means for breaking the positive drive at a predetermined time; means for knocking off the winding machine when a predetermined diameter of package is reached and for lifting the package out of driving contact with the driving roll. In the embodiment shown 10 indicates a cone holder mounted in anti-friction bearings 11, 12 in arms 13, 14 pivotally mounted on shaft 15. The arm 14 is hollow and carries a chain drive to the driving spindle 24 of the cone holder 10 from the drive shaft 28. Mounted on shaft 28 with freedom for turning movement relative thereto is a sprocket wheel 31 driven by chain 32 from an electric motor. The chain 32 also drives a sprocket wheel 36 which through gear wheels 39 and 40 drives the shaft 41 of the winding drum 42. Mounted on shaft 28 is one element of a sliding coupling 43 the other element of which is formed in the sprocket wheel 31. The coupling 43 is slidable by means of a lever 44 pivoted at 45 and normally holding the coupling 'inoperative by means of spring 46. The lever 44 is connected by a link 47 to solenoid 48 which when energized at the commencement of winding pulls the lever 44 to clutch the wheel 31 to the shaft 28 whereby rotary motion is transmitted to the shaft 28 and the cone holder 10 is driven through wheel 27, chain 26 and wheel 25. Also mounted on shaft 28 is a further wheel 49 which through chain 50, wheel 51 and gear wheels 55, 56 and 59 drives the shaft 60 of traverse cam 61. When a pre-determined thickness of yarn on the package is reached a microswitch located in the path of movement of the pivoted arm 14 is tripped and deenergizes the solenoid 48 whereby the spring 46 pulls the lever 44 to de-clutch the wheel 31. The drive to the cone holder 10 is then taken up by the winding drum 42. The drive to the traverse cam 61 then comes from the cone holder 10 by way of wheel 25 chain 26 and wheel 27 driving shaft 28. As the diameter of the package increases the arms 13, 14 lift against the action of weights 69 and pin 66 rides up the slotted lever 62. When the package reaches a predetermined size the pin 62 registers with slot 67 and lever 62 moves under the action of spring 65 to contact switch 68 which cuts-off the motor drive. A step 671 in slot 67 lifts the package out of contact with the winding drum 42.
