Abstract

727,269. Centrifugal spinning &c., machines. PRINCE-SMITH & STELLS, Ltd. April 29, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21432/52. Class 120 (2). A centrifugal spinning, twisting or doubling machine of the kind in which yarn is transferred from within a container to a bobbin for doffing has means for moving the bobbin into the container to intercept the yarn extending between the yarn traverse guide and the sides of the container. Although the movement of the bobbin may be initiated by a pedal, it may also be effected by breakage of a roving or yarn on the supply side of the delivery rollers. The emptying of one container by this means does not affect the operation of the other containers. In one embodiment, Fig. 4, each bobbin B of a spinning machine is carried by a sleeve 7 axially slidable upon a hollow dead spindle 1 secured on a rockshaft 4 and containing within its bore a spring that is under compression when the sleeve 7 is held at the bottom of the spindle 1 by a pivoted latch 9 engaging a peg 8 on the sleeve. Release of the peg 8 by the latch 9 permits the spring to propel the sleeve 7 and bobbin B upwardly. After the initial push they travel under acquired impetus until the bobbin B enters the container, intercepts the yarn and is held in unwinding position by spring clips on the container shroud, not shown. Movement of the latch 9 to release the bobbin may be by operation of a pedal 32 to slide a rod 23 against pressure of a spring 30. A wire 35 is connected to the rod 23 to provide the release movement upon breakage of the roving between the supply and the drafting rollers. At its upper end, the wire 35 is attached to a pivoted lever 45 carrying a projection that lies slightly outside the orbit of projections 46 on a rotating disc 43. A rod 58 pivoted with a yarn feeler finger 51 is adapted to fall in the absence of yarn across the projection 47 and into the path of the projections 46, one of which strikes the rod 58, presses it downward and lowers the lever 45, thus tensioning the wire 35 to move the rod 23 and release the bobbin B. In order to ensure that the bobbin is not raised when it is out of alignment with the container K, the disc 43 is only rotated during alignment, a clutch in the drive to the disc being held open by a solenoid if a switch 76 is not appropriately actuated by a striker arm 74 pivoted for movement in parallel with the bobbin B. In another embodiment, the compression spring within the spindle is dispensed with and a positive lifting movement is given to the bobbin B by a cord 81 fastened to the sleeve 7 and wound, at its upper end, round a winch drum 85, Fig. 2, brought into operation by the fall of a finger 87 upon breakage or absence of a roving or yarn. As finger 87 falls, it lowers a member 90 into the path of projections 95 on a disc 94 one of which projections forces the member 90 against a projection 100 on a rocking plate 96 that has a tail 101 co-operating with a limb of a member 102 which carries a roller 106 that rides in a groove in a hub of the drum 85 to push the drum to the right when the finger 87 falls. Fixed to the drum 85 is a ratchet wheel 107 having pegs 108 that pass into the path of radial pegs 110 fixed to a normally rotating shaft 93 when the drum 85 is pushed along the shaft. Rotation of the drum 85 through the pegs 108, 110, winds up the cord 81 that is attached to the bobbin sleeve. A stop 119 fixed on the cord 81 contacts a fairlead 117 on a rocker 116 when the bobbin has been raised sufficiently high causing the rocker 116 to be rotated to turn the member 102 to disengage pegs 108, 110. Clutch members 111, 112 are held out of engagement by a solenoid 73 when the bobbins B are not in axial alignment with the containers K. When several yarns are to be twisted, each is passed through tension discs 130, Fig. 6, carried on an individual quadrant plate 129 that falls on yarn failure,to strike a finger 132 forcing a member 90 to actuate the bobbin raising mechanism and also causing a rocking plate 96 to act upon a trigger 139 to release a hammer 138 so that it falls and traps all the yarns being delivered against a rod 137 and severs them. If a break occurs between the delivery rollers 120, 121 and the yarn guide 123, a finger 142 moves sideways to bring a cam race 148 beneath a cam rotating with the roller 120 so that finger 142 is pressed downwards, a thrust rod 147 is actuated and the hammer 138 is released to sever the yarns. In a further embodiment, a pivoted stirrup extending beneath pegs on the sleeve 7 is used to raise the bobbin under the influence of a caliper spring.
