Abstract

849,971. Automatic stop mechanism. LEESONA HOLT Ltd., [formerly TWO GATES MILL Ltd.]. Aug. 23, 1956 [May 23, 1955], No. 14763/55. Class 120(2). A high speed textile winding machine of the type in which the package being wound is driven by surface contact with a driving roller is provided with hank entanglement stop motion mechanism which reduces the risk of breakage of the yarn by ensuring that when an entanglement of yarn occurs a brake is put into action to lift the package clear of the driving roller and stop the turning movement of the winding package; in which the tension in the yarn between the swift and the yarn package may be adjusted to prevent undue tension thereon; and in which when the entanglement has been cleared the mechanism acts to release the brake and to lower the yarn package on to the driving roller to recommence winding. In the embodiment shown yarn Y travels from a swift 11 over a guide pulley 32 then around a guide pulley 30 at the end of an arm 19, round a further pulley 33 and after passing through tensioning means and a slub-catcher is wound on to a package resting on the driving drum 12. Should entanglement occur at the swift 11 the sudden increase in tension pulls the pulley 30 and arm 19 downwards against the action of a spring to the chain-dotted position shown. Movement of the arm 19 rotates a cam surface 25 which is in contact with a follower at the end of rod 22 such that the latter is depressed and rotates a bell-crank lever connected to its opposite end. Movement of the bell-crank lever draws a brake-shoe between the driving roller 13 and the package 15 and stops rotation of the latter. When the entanglement has been cleared the arm 19 returns to its original position under the action of its spring and through the reverse sequence removes the brake shoe from between the driving drum and the package. Movement of the brake shoe may also be used to move a yarn lifter for lifting the yarn free of the traverse guide.
