Abstract
314,468. Gaskell, J. March 28, 1928. Winding-machines.-In apparatus for winding wire on to bobbins, the bobbin 2, Figs. 1 and 3, is freely mounted on the spindle 1, bearing thereon at its opposite ends, and is pressed into contact with a shoulder 1<a> formed on the spindle, the contacting surfaces forming a friction clutch through which the bobbin is driven. The pressure-member comprise,s a twoarmed lever 8, 8<a> pivoted at 9, the arm carrying a ball-bearing 11 in which a thrust-block 12 is rotatably supported. A weight 13 is adjustable along the arm 8<a> and in the non-working position, shown dotted Fig, 1, the member rests on a stud 15, the bobbin 2 then being movable endwise on or off the spindle 1. Alternatively the pressure may be exerted by a spring while the members constituting the friction clutch may both form portions of the spindle 1. The Provisional Specification describes a form of clutch in which the members are conical.
