Abstract
802,132. Wire terminals; sleeve couplings. AMP, Inc. Aug. 15, 1956 [Aug. 30, 1955], No. 24973/56. Class 38 (1). The ferrule 10 of a terminal connector to be crimped on to a wire has serrations 18 in part of its outer surface so as to retain a fibrous refractory insulating sleeve 12 (e.g. of.asbestos) which is a friction fit on the ferrule and has serrations 20 formed therein by the ferrule. A metal sleeve 14 surrounds sleeve 12 and has a constricted port to be engaged by a crimping tool defined by shoulders 24, 26. The sleeves 12, 14 may extend over the cable insulation to support it. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, the ferrule 10<SP>11</SP> has square-threaded serrations. The connector may be in the form of a sleeve connector for two cables.
