Abstract

A plastic adhesive composition contains 20 to 60 parts by weight of unvulcanized natural rubber, or of a mixture of unvulcanized natural and synthetic rubbers, 20 to 60 parts of compatible resin, and 0.75 to 10 parts of a stabilizer having the formula: <FORM:0802018/IV (a)/1> wherein both R2 and R3 represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, both R2 and R4 represent an alkyl group, or R1 and R2 together or R3 and R4 together represent an alkylene group. The stabilizers specified are monomethylammonium monomethyldithiocarbamate, diethylammonium diethyldithiocarbamate, di - n - propylammonium di - n - pro pyldithiocarbamate, di - n - butylammonium di - n - butyldithiocarbamate, di - iso - butylammonium di - iso - butyldithiocarbamate, dicyclohexylammonium dicyclohexyldithiocarbamate, and piperidinium cyclopentamethylene-dithiocarbamate. Suitable compatible resins are rosin and its derivatives. In examples a pressure-sensitive adhesive comprises, in parts by weight: (1) crepe rubber 100, zinc oxide 74, colophony resin 96, methyl ester of hydrogenated rosin 5, wool fat 89, and diethylammonium diethyldithiocarbamate 5; (2) crepe rubber 55, butadiene-styrene copolymer 45, titanium dioxide 50, methyl ester of hydrogenated rosin 45, hydrogenated ester gum 65, and monomethyl ammonium monomethyl dithiocarbamate 3; (3) smoked sheet 10, zinc oxide 21, titanium dioxide 7, wool fat 7, rosin 9, di-n-propyl ammonium di-n-propyl dithiocarbamate 0.5; and (4) crepe rubber 100, wool fat 50, polybutene 24, rosin 90, and piperidinium cyclopentamethylene dithiocarbamate 3.
