Abstract

844,935. Pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes. KRITCHEVER, M. F. Aug. 28, 1956, No. 26306/56. Class 140. A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape comprises a polyethylene strip having one side thereof modified by impingement of flame thereon or by electron bombardment to render the polyethylene molecules in said surface unsaturated, and a pressure-sensitive adhesive united to said modified surface. The pressure sensitive adhesive may comprise natural or crepe rubber, butadiene-styrene, butadieneacrylonitrile, polyvinyl butyl ether, vinyl chloride copolymer, e.g. vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer, a resin, e.g. wood rosin, pentaerythritol ester of hydrogenated wood rosin, plasticizers, e.g. dibenzyl phthalate, and an antioxidant. The adhesive may be applied in the form of a solution, e.g. in heptane, koluol and aliphatic or aromatic naphtha. Specification 781,742 is referred to.
