[Class 140] An adhesive tape or sheet comprises a flexible non-fibrous film firmly united to one adhesive face of a coextensive thin paper sheet impregnated with a reinforcing material and coated on both sides with a tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive. The non-fibrous film may be regenerated cellulose, a cellulose ester or ether such as cellulose nitrate, acetate, or acetobutyrate, ethyl or benzyl cellulose, rubber hydrochloride, chlorinated rubber, synthetic resin, or metal foil. The tacky, pressure sensitive adhesive composition may be applied from a solution through which the paper is drawn, and may act also as the reinforcing impregnant. The non-fibrous film may be coated with a primer on that side which is to be united with the adhesive coated paper. The paper may be made from hemp fibres which may run mostly in one direction. The adhesive composition may be a solution of rubber and rosin or coumarone resin containing zinc oxide, pigment, and an antioxidant, or of polymerised isobutylene and coumarone resin, or of polymerised isobutylene, wood rosin, and hydrogenated methyl abietate containing zinc oxide and a pigment. The paper may be pretreated with a non-adhesive, reinforcing composition comprising a dilute solution of rubber and rosin containing zinc oxide and an antioxidant. The primer coating for the film may comprise reclaim rubber, latex crepe rubber, whiting, wood rosin, and a hydrocarbon solvent. The adhesive coated sheet may be transparent or translucent and coloured, if pigments or fillers are omitted from the adhesive composition or replaced by dyes.
