692,285. Adhesive-coated fabrics. VAN CLEEF BROS., Inc. March 21, 1951. No. 6767/51. Class 140. In a pressure sensitive adhesive fabric comprising a plastic backing film, a bonding coat adherent thereto, and an adhesive film of rubber and a resinous material applied to said bonding coat, the bonding coat comprises a rubber plastic of the diene polymer type or rubber, and a minor proportion, say 10 - 30 parts rubber, &c. of methylene bis-(4-phenyl isocyanate). The backing film may be of polyvinyl chloride or polyvinyl butyral, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, &c., rubber hydro-chloride, ethyl cellulose, Cellophane (Registered Trade Mark) or cellulose acetate. Suitable diene polymers are sodium-catalyzed butadiene or methylbutadiene, butadiene-acrylonitrile, butadienestyrene and chloroprene polymers. The rubber or rubber polymer is milled with a small amount of specified plasticisers, the plasticised material is dissolved in benzol; toluol, &c. and shortly before use there is added the isocyanate which may be dissolved in -orthodichlorobenzene. The coated film is dried at about 200 - 250 ‹F., and then preferably rolled on itself, and the roll heated say for 2 hours within the above range. The adhesive is then applied. This consists of rubber or synthetic rubber and resins or resinlike material such as coumarone-indene resin, resin, hydrogenated resin and esters or mixtures thereof, with or without zinc oxide, carbon black, &c. The adhesive coating is dried at about 150‹F.
