Abstract

1,264,795. Coated products. SCOTT BADER CO. Ltd. 9 May, 1969 [9 May, 1968], No. 22119/68. Heading B2E. A roll of wallpaper comprises a paper substrate having a printed or embossed surface carrying a flexible transparent protective and release layer of synthetic resin and coated on its other surface with a permanently tacky pressure sensitive adhesive, the protective layer on one turn of the roll contacting the adhesive on an adjacent turn and being readily separable therefrom to allow unrolling of the roll without delamination. The paper may be made from chemical or mechanical pulp or from fibres of rayon, cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyester or glass, and may be impregnated with styrene-butadiene resin or acrylic ester copolymer emulsion. The synthetic resin coating may be of acrylic ester polymer or copolymer with vinylidene chloride or styrene, copolymers of butadiene with styrene, acrylonitrile or methyl methacrylate, vinyl acetate copolymers, plasticised polyvinyl acetate, or a polymer latex or emulsion together with a polysaccharide and mineral filler. The resin layer may contain, or be coated with, a wax or silicone emulsion as release agent. The pressure sensitive adhesive may be an acrylic ester polymer or copolymer with vinyl acetate or another acrylic ester, an ester gum, polyisobutylene, polyvinyl alkyl ether, vinyl acetate copolymer or natural or synthetic rubber usually compounded with a tackifying resin such as poly-#-pinene. The coatings may both be applied by air knife doctor.
