Abstract

1315114 Adhesive coated wall coverings SCOTT BADER CO Ltd 7 May 1970 [16 May 1969] 25107/69 Heading B2E A washable wall covering comprises a base sheet coated on the back surface with a permanently tacky pressure sensitive adhesive and coated on the front surface with a protective release coat, the pressure sensitive adhesive coating and the release coat being so chosen that the front surface of a coated base sheet will easily release from the pressure sensitive adhesive coating, the base sheet consisting of a flexible thermoplastic synthetic material and having a printed and/or embossed pattern on its front face. The base sheet may contain one or more polymers or co-polymers and may contain pigments and/or plasticizers, or it may be a laminate of thermoplastic synthetic material with a base substrate of non-woven material, e.g. paper or a randomly laid non- woven web of fibres, e.g. polyester fibres or of a woven textile fabric, or it may be a laminate of two or more layers of synthetic thermoplastics material. Synthetic thermoplastic material for the base sheet may be polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, fluorine-substituted polyolefines, a foamed synthetic polymer, e.g. expanded polystyrene. The pressure sensitive adhesive may be synthetic and natural rubbers compounded with a tackifying resin, polyisobutylene, polyvinyl alkyl ethers, e.g. polyvinyl isobutyl ether, polyacrylic esters and co-polymers thereof, e.g. copolymers of 2-ethyl-hexyl acrylate and/or heptyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate and co-polymers of vinyl acetate and 2-ethyl-hexyl acylate and/or heptyl acrylate. The release coat may be a silicone applied as a dispersion or emulsion.
